When the lights shine brightest, some people shy away. Others take advantage of the moment and Guard Ian Martino (12) is one of these people.
“I expect myself to have a big year with all the work I’ve put in the summer and fall.” said Martino.
Martino is not alone in his last season of high school basketball. Guard Noah Purser (12), Center Tyler Gass (12), and Forward Hunter Van Cleve (12) aim to make their last season, their best season.
“With it being my senior year I realize I have a major role to fill and I need to fulfill that.” said Martino.
There’s been beef brewing between local schools like Hough and CSD over the years, and rivalries like these is what makes basketball season so exciting.
“I look forward to playing Hough or CSD because of all the people I know on those teams and the local rivalry we have with them in most sports.” said Martino
Although playing in big rivalry games can be fun and exiciting, games will get even better when conference play begins. Martino believes their biggest competition will come out of their conference. However, he believes the team will find success this year against any team as long as they stay true to themselves.
“East Lincoln is our biggest competition because they won conference last year and have a couple players returning but I think if we play our game we’ll be just fine.” said Martino.
The first game is this upcoming Tuesday, November 27th against Hopewell. Expect a good game with two quality teams going head to head.
“Everyone should show out and come watch a great game because we’ve already scrimmaged them before and the game was close.” said Martino.
Hoops season is among us and you don’t want to miss any part of it!
